I bought an old Ford machine

In 1962, after 5 years in California, we able to go back to Minnesota to visit our Mothers.
we all all packed up and ready to return to California when we drove by the local gas station and there was a 1931 five window coupe Model A for sale for $250.00. I looked up the owner and purchased it for my five year old son, Randy.
It was stored in my Mother's garage and later on Duane's farm until 1970 when we had moved to Loveland, Colorado and Randy was now 14 years old. We towed it from Minnesota to Colorado behind our 69 Chrsyler.
The junior college at this time offered a mechanics course to young people if their father attended also. Randy was the center of all attention in the class because of him and his car.
Randy thrived, I survived. The next year I thought that Dan should have the same experience. we both survived.
We purchased a new running gear and Randy proceeded to transfer everything to the new chassis. My collegue shop teacher, Mr. Thompson, redid the hard wood pieces in the roof. Art Riefell Dodge did the repainting and Randy had a restored auto that represented his own effort and patience and hours and hours of devotion.
What I learned from the classes was that I wanted some one else to do my mechanic work.
This last year Randy sold the Model A but not before he gave everone a last ride in the rumble seat.

In the above picture, Randy's children, Court and My Granddaughter appear to be about be about 10 and 8,respectfully. so this picture must have been taken in the early 1980's.

An early song about the Model T's went like this:

I bought an old Ford machine,
I filled it up with gasoline,
Got out to crank and the darn thing got away.

It wouldn't wait till I got in,
So now I own a pile of tin,
And every month I go right up and pay.

Hey Papa, I think that picture was taking when we lived on Leila in Loveland and that must have been in the early 90's

It's a great pic! I'm sure we were thrilled to have you visiting that day!
