Hello Papa!
In order to help you with adding photos in your blog posts I have decided to post this short tutorial. In the following sections you will find the steps and links necessary to help you locate family photos, insert them into the blog and finally publish your post.
In order to help you with adding photos in your blog posts I have decided to post this short tutorial. In the following sections you will find the steps and links necessary to help you locate family photos, insert them into the blog and finally publish your post.
- When adding a photo to a blog it is easiest to have two internet windows open, this way you can have your post editor open and insert the picture from the online family album in one simple step!
- First go to http://blogger.com/ and sign in, once you are at the dashboard click the green "add post" button, or click the name of your blog and under the "posting" tab click "Create"
- It is easiest to add the picture before beginning the post, so now that you have logged into blogger in one window, switch to the other window so we can navigate to the Rye Family Photo Album. The picture below shows how to switch between internet explorer windows.
- In the new window (the one that does not have blogger open) go to the Rye Family Photo Album which can be found directly at http://ryefamily.net/memory-lane/ or by going to your blog at http://glenn.ryefamily.net/ and then clicking the "Rye Memory Lane" link under "other links"
- Once you are at the photo album page, miniature photos will begin to load slowly down the page. If you are looking for a specific photo the fastest way to locate it is usually to scroll down the thumbnails page, if however you are simply browsing for fun I suggest clicking on a photo and using the built in navigation to go from one picture to the next.
- When you find a photo that you want to add to your blog, click on it twice. Make sure that the page you end up on only shows the photo and does not show the navigation at the top. You can double check this by reading the address of the picture and making sure it ends in .jpg
- Now that you have navigated to the actual URL of the photograph, hilight it by holding the left click on the mouse and dragging until the entire link has been selected. Usually something turns blue when it is selected, so in this case you want the entire address to have blue around it. There are other ways to hilight things, sometimes a single click or two slow clicks will do it. Experiment until the entire URL is selected. An example of a full URL from Rye Family Photo Album would look like this: http://ryefamily.net/memory-lane/images/107_jpg.jpg only the blue would be all around the link instead of on it.
- Once the URL is hilighted, let go of the left mouse button and click the right button on the URL once, a tiny menu will appear and there will be a few options. Choose the option to "Copy" the URL, this will temporarily store the URL that you just hilighted in the computers memory.
- Now that you have stored the URL in the computers temporary memory, navigate back to blogger by clicking its tab along the Start bar at the bottom. This will bring you back to the Posting - Create page that you got to earlier.
- From the list of options at the top of the Compose box there is a tiny button that looks like a picture, when you hover your mouse button over the button it says "add image," click this once. When you click this button a new window will appear (and it may not be in the center of the screen) if you cannot see the entire window simply left click and hold the top bar of the window while dragging and position the window where you can see all of its contents.
- This window has three steps, 1. locate the file of the image (which we have stored from when we right clicked and copied it) 2. choose the orientation (you said that left alignment worked best for you) and 3. choose the size (I recommend medium).
- First, right click in the empty field in the upper right hand corner and select "Paste" from the tiny drop down that appears. Make sure you paste the URL into the right field, you want the one that says "Or add and image from the web" above it and has the letters "URL" just to the left of it. Once again, this is the field that is in the top right hand corner.
- Now that the URL has been pasted, simply choose the circular button for the left aligned image and also check the circle for "medium" sized image and then click "Upload Image."
- Once the image is uploaded a new screen appears which has a "Done" button on it, click "Done" and the window will close.
- You should now see the empty blog entry screen with your picture successfully pasted on the left hand side! You can begin typing by clicking your cursor anywhere in the white space just to the right of the image. Publish the post when you have finished typing (and my advice would be to "Save as Draft" if you are typing a long post and are worried about possibly deleting the image on accident or having a computer problem).
- Essentially the steps would be to open blogger and the photo album, choose a picture and copy the link, paste the link and upload the image, save as draft so you don't lose your material and then type the post and publish when it is done!
Good luck! Call me if you need help, this tutorial took forever and I know you may still have questions. I hope this makes it easier for you to post, and hopefully you won't post a million enpty entries on accident anymore... If you publish a post and the internet seems to stall, only click Publish Post once because multiple clicks may be causing multiple entries.
Love ya,
Court
