When she was a high school sophomore, My Granddaughter won a Nasa essay contest and spend some of the summer off of the coast of Florida in an underwater training capsule. Last summer she spent time there also. Consequently she is an e-mail correspondent of Patty Whitson who is currently residing in the space station and also of Clay Anderson who just returned from 6 months in space.
But last week a CU alumni, Scott Carpenter, who was the Mercury commander returned to
Boulder, Colorado for a symposium on space and two CU students were picked to have lunch with him at the event. One of the students was My Granddaughter .She now has his e-mail address also.
Carpenter was from an earlier era but his name is familiar to us older folks. They even named a park in Boulder after him.

Her high school class at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Colorado of May 22,2005 chose a quote from the all knowing, Dr. Seuss.

"Oh, the places you will go!
