Court and my granddaughter-2008

My grandson, Court, is the creator of this blog site that has really enriched my life and I am eternally greatful to Court. He is located in Mt. View, California and is always on the cutting edge of technology. His enthusiasm and energy is unmatched and you only need to go to his web site at www.courtrye.com to witness his many endeavors.

My granddaughter's web site can also be seen also be seen at this same site set up again by Court.
They are the children of our son, Randy.

On January 15, 2008 I had an entry on my blog about my granddaughter and her friend, Heidi. Two of the readers of my blog, Bernie and Dick Greene of Sun City related to me that they had a friend whose son was en-involved in the space program also. An e-mail entitled one for Bernie was received from Michelle Pettit with a picture of Heidi and Don tasting space food.(see January 15,2008 post)

Bernie's comment on my blog was as follows:
"I sent Jenne an excerpt form this blog..I knew that she would forward it to her daughter and son in law, Micki and Don Pettit. Meanwhile, Dick and I are thrilled to have a hand in this episode of the Rye Saga featuring my granddaughter.
When does the first book of the series hit the bookstores? How soon after that will the TV and /or movie verson come out?"
-"Bernie"

My granddaughter wrote" Ha,haa! You are so silly. I love the picture and this blog though.Heidi is such a cheerful and joyous person she makes me smile. If there was anyone that I would chose to go on a long duration mission with it would be her."

My Granddaughter

Well, I was watching the Nasa channel the other night and I saw all of the crew for the November 15th lauch come in on their neat little planes and then the commander introduced each and every one of them.I then went to www.nasa.gov and saw a neat displaying outlining the activities of each day of the flight. It was awesome!!

Why am I telling you all this?? Well, Heidi has invited my granddaughter to witness the launch in person along with her family members!!!!

Birthday girls

Today is Donna's birthday and Ramona will celebrate her's on the 30th of this month.
A poem from Kipling for Donna......
"If I were hanged on the highest hill,
Mother o' mine, O Mother o' mine
I know whose love would follow me still,
Mother o' mine, O Mother o' mine!
If I were drowned in the deepest sea,
Mother o' mine, O Mother of mine
I know whose tears would come down to me,
Mother o' mine, O Mother o' mine!
If I were dammed of body and soul,
I know whose prayers would make me whole,
Mother o' mine, O mother o' mine."

A Dream
Songs of Innocence by William BlakeOn Another's Sorrow
Songs of Experience
This poem was published in Songs of Innocence in 1789.

Plate: On Another's Sorrow
Can I see another’s woe,And not be in sorrow too?Can I see another’s grief,And not seek for kind relief? Can I see a falling tear,And not feel my sorrow’s share? Can a father see his childWeep, nor be with sorrow fill'd?Can a mother sit and hearAn infant groan, an infant fear? No, no! never can it be!Never, never can it be!And can He who smiles on allHear the wren with sorrows small,Hear the small bird’s grief and care,Hear the woes that infants bear,And not sit beside the nest,Pouring pity in their breast; And not sit the cradle near,Weeping tear on infant’s tear; And not sit both night and day,Wiping all our tears away?O, no! never can it be!Never, never can it be!He doth give His joy to all;He becomes an infant small; He becomes a man of woe;He doth feel the sorrow too.Think not thou canst sigh a sigh,And thy Maker is not by:Think not thou canst weep a tear,And thy Maker is not near.O! He gives to us His joyThat our grief he may destroy;Till our grief is fled & goneHe doth sit by us and moan.

The Lamb
Songs of Innocence by William BlakeThe Little Black Boy
The Blossom (Blake)
The Little Black Boy is a poem by William Blake published in Songs of Innocence in 1789. It details, in first person, a scene where a young African boy's mother tells him of God and his views of people, including English children. It also contains the idea that once they die, God will call out to them as equals and they will be the same in His eyes.

Blakes' second plate of The Little Black Boy
My mother bore me in the southern wild,And I am black, but O! my soul is whiteWhite as an angel is the English child:But I am black as if bereav'd of light. My mother taught me underneath a treeAnd sitting down before the heat of dayShe took me on her lap and kissed me,And pointing to the east began to say:Look on the rising sun: there God does liveAnd gives his light, and gives his heat awayAnd flowers and trees and beasts and men recieveComfort in morning joy in the noonday. And we are put on earth a little spaceThat we may learn to bear the beams of love. And these black bodies and this sunburnt faceIs but a cloud, and like a shady grove,For when our souls have learn'd the heat to bearThe cloud will vanish we shall hear his voice,Saying: come out from the grove my love & careAnd round my golden tent like lambs rejoice. Thus did my mother say and kissed me.And thus I say to little English boy. When I from black and he from white cloud free,And round the tent of God like lambs we joy:Ill shade him from the heat till he can bearTo lean in joy upon our fathers knee. And then I’ll stand and stroke his silver hair,And be like him and he will then love me.

Songs of Innocence by William BlakeThe Lamb
The Little Black Boy
The Lamb is a poem by William Blake, published in Songs of Innocence in 1789. Like many of Blakes' works, the poem is about religion, specificially about Christianity. "We are called by his name" implies that God is present in each one of us. The lamb in the poem is meant to represent Jesus as a gentle, peaceful man.
— Excerpted from The Lamb on Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia.

Blake's plate of The Lamb
Little Lamb, who made thee?Dost thou know who made thee?Gave thee life & bid thee feedBy the stream & o’er the mead;Gave thee clothing of delight,Softest clothing, wooly, bright;Gave thee such a tender voice,Making all the vales rejoice?Little Lamb, who made thee?Dost thou know who made thee?Little Lamb, I’ll tell thee,Little Lamb, I’ll tell thee:He is callèd by thy name,For he calls himself a Lamb.He is meek, & he is mild;He became a little child.I a child, & thou a lamb,We are callèd by his name.Little Lamb, God bless thee!Little Lamb, God bless thee!

Blake's plate of Introduction
Piping down the valleys wild,Piping songs of pleasant glee,On a cloud I saw a child,And he laughing said to me:‘Pipe a song about a Lamb!’So I piped with merry cheer.‘Piper, pipe that song again.’So I piped: he wept to hear.‘Drop thy pipe, thy happy pipe;Sing thy songs of happy cheer:’So I sung the same again,While he wept with joy to hear.‘Piper, sit thee down and writeIn a book, that all may read.’So he vanish'd from my sight; And I pluck'd a hollow reed,And I made a rural pen,And I stained the water clear,And I wrote my happy songsEvery child may joy to hear.

good

"Dear God, if there be good in me...let all of it
come out...If I have love and sympathy...let no
one be in doubt...if I can do some kindly act...
Please give me strength to make...My effort an
accomplished fact...For someone else's sake...
Inspire me to give my best...in everything I do...
And never let my spirit rest...Until I see it through
...Whenever there are clouds of gray...And heavy
hang the years...Help me help someone on his way
...And help me dry his tears...Dear God, be
aways with me and...If there be good in me...Let
it go out to every land...And all humanity.

"I gaze on the moon as I tread the drear wild,
And feel that my Mother now thinks of her child,
As she looks on that moon from our own cottage door
Tro' the woodbine, whose fragrance shall cheer me
no more.
Home, home, sweet,sweet home.
There's no place like home, oh, there'e no place like
home"

A Harvest Moon
The harvest moon is the moon at and about the period of fullness that is nearest to the autumnal equinox. - Dictionary.com
The Harvest moon is a legend in Norse mythology, it is said to be the most powerful of the Moons granting Loki's blessing for a strong harvest and plenty. The Harvest moon is often mistaken for the modern day Hunter's moon.
In the legend of the Harvest moon, it is said that all full moons have their own special characteristics based primarily on the whereabouts of the ecliptic in the sky at the time of year that these moons are visible. The full moons of September, October and November as seen from the northern hemisphere - which correspond to the full moons of March, April and May as seen from the southern hemisphere - are well known in the folklore of the sky. All full moons rise around the time of sunset. However, although in general the moon rises about 50 minutes later each day, as it moves in orbit around Earth, the Harvest Moon and Hunter's Moon are special, because around the time of these full moons, the time difference between moonrise on successive evenings is shorter than usual. In other words, the moon rises approximately 30 minutes later, from one night to the next, as seen from about 40 degrees N. or S. latitude, for several evenings around the full Hunter's or Harvest Moons. Thus there is no long period of darkness between sunset and moonrise around the time following these full moons. In times past this feature of these autumn moons was said to help farmers working to bring in their crops (or, in the case of the Hunter's Moon, hunters tracking their prey). They could continue being productive by moonlight even after the sun had set. Hence the name Harvest (or Hunter's) Moon.
The reason for the shorter-than-usual rising time between successive moonrises around the time of the Harvest and Hunter's Moon is that the ecliptic - or plane of Earth's orbit around the sun - makes a narrow angle with respect to the horizon in the evening in autumn.
The Harvest Moon is said to come before or after the autumnal equinox. It is simply the full moon closest to that equinox. About once every four years it occurs in October, depending on the cycles of the moon. Currently, the latest the Harvest Moon can occur is on October 8. Between 1900 and 2010 the Harvest Moon falls on October 7 in 1930, 1949, 1987, 2006, and on October 8 in 1911.
Norse mythology celebrates with gatherings, festivals, and rituals that are intricately attuned to the Harvest Moon or Hunter's Moon.
Often, the Harvest Moon seems to be bigger or brighter or more colorful than other moons. These effects have to do with the seasonal tilt of the earth. The warm color of the moon shortly after it rises is an optical illusion, based on the fact that when the moon is low in the sky, you are looking at it through a greater amount of atmospheric particles than when the moon is overhead. The atmosphere scatters the bluish component of moonlight (which is really reflected white light from the sun), but allows the reddish component of the light to travel a straighter path to your eyes. Hence all moons (and stars and planets) look reddish when they are low in the sky.
As for the large size of a full moon when seen low in the sky, it is true that the human eye perceives a low-hanging moon to be larger than one that's high in the sky. This is known as a Moon Illusion and it can be seen with any full moon. It can also be seen with constellations; in other words, a constellation viewed low in the sky will appear bigger than when it is high in the sky.

[edit] Other names
The Harvest Moon is also known as the Wine Moon, the Singing Moon and the Elk Call Moon. In myth and folklore the full moon of each month is given a name. There are many variations, but the following list gives the most widely known names:
January - Wolf moon only
February - Ice moon
March - Storm moon
April - Growing moon
May - Hare moon
June - Mead moon
July - Hay moon
August - Corn moon
September - Harvest moon
October - Hunter's moon
November - Snow moon
December - Winter moon
The third full moon in a season with four full moons is called a blue moon, as described in the Maine Farmer's Almanac. Until recently it was commonly misunderstood that the second full moon in a month was the blue moon. However, it was recently discovered by Sky & Telescope Magazine and reported on NPR that the interpretation of a blue moon as the second full moon of the month was erroneously reported in an issue of Sky & Telescope dating back to 1946 and then perpetuated by other media.
In some cultures, individuals whose birthdays fall on or near a harvest moon must provide a feast for the rest of the community.

FAll

Dear …………,

The summer 2008 has come to an end as the month of August gives way to September.

The fall season (Autumn) sets in September all over again in North America.

I have seen the Spring and Summer seasons this year of 2008 in the Mid-West part of America.

It was a great experience because it was the first and last time in my life I could enjoy these two seasons over here.

However, I will be able to see the fall season for a fortnight before leaving this great country of natural beauty embedded in all those highways, streets, subways, huge and small houses and tall buildings enveloped in glass.

Compared to my own country – India, America is certainly a different one with different culture and way of life.

The autumn is going to change the landscape all over America giving a colorful background.

The leaves of trees and bushes, grew up in Spring and Summer sun, green will be changing their color from green to orange, yellow, pink, red and a mix of all these colors.

All these color changes lead to the death of those precious photosynthetic apparatus which will fall off from the plants leaving them bare and naked.

The fall season will be a mixed one with sunshine and rain.

It is an annual feature, taking place year after year.

People who live in this part of America have to live and experience the four seasons in sequence every year.

I am preparing to pack off carrying the sweet memories of the momentous events

I came across here in America for the past six months.

With my best wishes,

Yours,

Ready to fall...

Siver haired daddies rule

Send "That Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine" Ringtones to Cell Phone In a vine-covered shack in the mountains Bravely fighting the battle of Time There's a dear one who's weathered life's sorrow It's that silver haired Daddy of mine If I could recall all the heartaches Dear old Daddy, I've caused you to bear If I could erase those lines from your face And bring back the gold to your hair If God would but grant me the power Just to turn back the pages of Time I'd give all I own if I could but atone To that silver haired Daddy of mine. I know it's too late, dear old Daddy To repay for the heartaches and care But dear Mother is waiting in Heaven Just to comfort and solace you there If I could recall all the heartaches Dear old Daddy, I've caused you to bear If I could erase those lines from your face And bring back the gold to your hair If God would but grant me the power Just to turn back the pages of Time I'd give all I own if I could but atone To that silver haired Daddy of mine

Thought for the day

Richly Blessed
Sometimes I wonder when things go wrong,Has God forsaken and left me alone? Then I remember through trials and distress,He’s always with me,I’m most richly blessed.
I asked God for strength, that I might achieve;I was made weak, that I might learn to humbly obey.
I asked for health, that I might do greater things;I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.
I asked for riches, that I might be happy;I was given poverty, that I might be wise.
I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men;I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life;I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I asked for,But everything I had hoped for,And almost despite myself,My unspoken prayers were answered.
He’s always with meI am, among all men, most richly, blessed.

D-Back daze

I'm finally able to share my D-Back outfit with my grandson, Court Rye of Mt. View, California. The D-Back shirt was one tossed by the cheerleaders into the audience and I was alert enough to pick it up before 50 other people grabbed for it..The hat is a Brynes hat with long goldilock hair attached to the back to emulate Byrne's long hair that doesn't hold a candle to Mammy Ramairez's hair but it is a start.
Canadian's Royal Mounted Police did not press charges for impersonating a ball player.
