I'm special

A best friend shared this we me and I now share it with you.

In all the world there is
nobody like me.
Nobody has my smile
Nobody laughs like me...

In all eternity, none will ever look, talk,
walk like me....

I'm beginning to realize it's no
accident that I'm special. I'm beginning
to see that God made me Special for a
very special purpose. He must have a job for me that no one else can do as well as
I. Out of all the billions of applicants,
I'm the only one qualified, the only one
who has the right combination of what it
takes....

Not on sts mission-sept-08

I was going bring up picture of Granddaughter and Bernie and Dick, but, alas, this earth bound person forgot the technology that I used so you will have to go to the 1-28-07 to see the picture of Bernie and Dick and to the 11-21-07 blog to see the picture of my granddaugher.

Also if you want to comment on this blog you must type in glenn.rye on the users name and ryefamily on the password.

Last but not least, I quoted Browning by memory and the last part is-

"Our times are in his hands who saith, a whole I planned, youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid."

Mission Specialists for STS Mission-Sept-08

Did I every in my wildest dreams believe that I would have a personalized pictures of two of the many great people in our space endeavor on my blog, Glenndeavour.
And thereby hangs a tale
My Grandson, Court, created and named this blog, Glenndeavour. Court's sister was the reciepient of a NASA award that she won by writting an essay back in 2003. You can read about her adventures and see that beautiful pictures by going to-ryefamily.net/and then clicking on -my granddaughter at .ryefamily.net/ and then click on- aquarius experience.
Naturally I was excited about my granddaughter's experiences and I wrote about them on my blog. Two of the readers of my blog, Bernie and Dick Greene of Sun City and they related that they had a friend whose son was involved on the space progam. So my granddaughter and Bernie-Dick were exchanging notes on the comment section of my blog and today I recieved from Bernie and Dick a picutre of Heidi and Don.
The e-mail was from Michelle Pettit to Jeannie and entitled-
One for Bernie,
I thought that you would like to give this to Bernie. It is a photo with Heidi and Don taste testing food for their flight.
Micki.
The sidewalks in Sun City usually roll up about nine o'clock in the evening and the only sign of live is a rabbit, a quail or a coyote.
Now we can truly say with Robert Browning,
Grow old along with me,
The best is yet to be-
The last of life for which the first was made.
He promised us a whole
The best is yet to be!

The hostest with the mostest

O who will walk a mile with me
Along life's merry way?
Who dares to laugh out loud and free,

And let her frolic fancy play,
Like a happy child through flowers gay
that fills the field and fringe the way
Where she walks a mile with me,

And who will walk a mile with me
Along life's weary way?
A friend whose heart has eyes to see
The stars shine out o' er the darkening lea,
And the quiet rest at the end of day,
A friend who knows and dares to say,
The brave sweet words that cheer the way
Where she walks a mile with me.

With such a comrade, such a friend,
I fain would walk till journey's end,
Through summer sunshine,winter rain,
And then farewell, we shall meet again!

Ann Baker, who is a baker-gave a beutiful rendition of this poem at the last party that we were able to give our beloved friend, Connie.

Ann added,"We will walk with you , Connie

Happy 43rd birthday, Greg

Greg, pictured with Ramona and Donna on his graduation day from Palmer Chiropractic College in 1990.
He is a joy and source of pride to his family, his community and to all who are fortunate to be in his sphere of influence.

"Drop a stone into the water-
In a moment it is gone,
But there are a hundred ripples
Circling on and on and on,

Say an unkind word this moment-
In a moment it is gone
But there are a hundred ripples
Circling on and on and on,

Say a word of cheer and splendor-
In a moment it is gone
But there are a hundred ripples
Circling on and on and on..

Greg always speaks words of cheer and splendor..

Grandma Rye"s Grandchildren in 1963

Oh, the years are long
And the years are dear
And we cherish each in this verse
And some we loved
the lovliest and best
who through the vintage
rolling time has pressed-
have drunk their cup a time or two before
And one by one stole silently off to rest..-the prophet
And this day I am pleased that I was able to enter these pictures on the Rye Family tree on the internet's geni and thanks to Susan Nerison Olson, I was able to indetify each and every one.
As Tiny Tim said: God bless us, one and all.

2008 Calender

I didn't mean to start the new year on a slant but I have done so. Ramona gave me a calender for Christmas. The picture is one fourth off of center. It is the lifesaver on the good ship, Sunshine, resting in the sink of same.

Todd Nelson-tour guide extrordinare

In June of 2005m ny gracious grand nephew, Todd, and his father, Roger Nelson, picked me up at the Twin Cities airport and we went to Mankato where we visited with his Mother, Barbara, and of course Roger.dmv.
We then met my brother,Ray, and his wife, Barbara, from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. From their we went to Wyoming,(Minnesota, that is) and visited my niece,Tanya, who has since moved to Washington state. She is one of my favorites.
We then went to Blackduck where we met up with my niece,Jewell, her husband,Dan Rockensock, daughter, Theresa, and son, Brett.
Brett has since passed away as has my brother, Ray.
We then went to Madison where we met with my niece, Susan Nerison Olson, and her family. The Olsons were guests of Brigid, Dan and Summer on their power boat,The Sunshine, last fourth of July weekend.
In Hills, Minnesota we visited Nelsons, Ehdes, Rye's ,Nerisons and who knows who else.

Todd had hosted the same trip a year or two earlier and we had gone thorugh a small town called Motley. Todd got real excited because of his favorites were were the Motley Crew. So we took pictures in front of the firehouse and decide on this go around that we would call ourselves the Motley Two and hand out autographed tour schedules with our signatuare on it.
Alas, there were no takers

May we do this in this new year

Max Ehrmann Desiderata Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrenderbe on good terms with all persons.Speak your truth quietly and clearly;and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant;they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.Exercise caution in your business affairs;for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;many persons strive for high ideals;and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.Especially, do not feign affection.Neither be cynical about love;for in the face of all aridity and disenchantmentit is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.Beyond a wholesome discipline,be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,no less than the trees and the stars;you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you,no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,whatever you conceive Him to be,and whatever your labors and aspirations,in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,it is still a beautiful world.Be cheerful.Strive to be happy.

Luverne Mn. Ken Burn's-THE WAR

If you watched the memorable series by Ken Burns you will remember that a soldier from Luverne, Minnesota was featured as well as the town of Luverne itself. The soldiers name was Anneson, but throughout the series the publisher of the Star-Herald was quoted time and time again. There was an afternoon showing at the Palace Theatre making the opening of the series with Ken Burns in attendance..My classmate, Corneilus Bosch was in attendance.
Lori Ehde is now editor of the paper.
Alan C. McIntosh was great writer and this selection was written during the troublesome sixties.
It is as true today as it was then-- God bless the USA!!!

Phoenix Suns play Seattle Sonics-01-03-2008

Once again the Golden Grannies will perform for the Suns audience during one of the time outs Thursday evening. My friend Ethel is the Lady in the back row with the orange tam.
My Son, Dan, has graciously provided tickets for us so it will be another reason to be grateful for this new year. Last year when the girls performed Dan had tickets for us and also for Barbara and Roger Nelson who were visiting from Mankato, Minnesota.
Brigid, Dan's wife, is in a tennis program that includes Steve Nash's wife and also the wife of the player named Hill. They have been Brigid's guests in her home.

Thank you,Dan! Thank you Brigid!
