you are the arrows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth-Gibran: part two

These childreen came from the bows of Donna Lee Entenman Rye and Glenn E. Rye

Randy Lee Rye was born on June 14th, l957 in Wortthington,Minnesota. In l958 the family moved to Riverside, California. While living on Cass Street Randy took art lessons from our neighbor,Phyllis Pope.He played Little League baseball at the La Sierra park and enjoyed going to Hogies, a private animal zoo. In later years when he visited Riverside, the places he checked out were Hoagies, the LaPoloma and the home on Gramercy place
he also took guitar lessons in Arlington and sang in the choir at Hope Lutheran Church.
We had a goat named, Gus, and Randy was able to irritate Gus enough that he would rear up on his rear legs and spar with Randy as if they were boxing. We had four ewes and a buck and buck was prone to attack if you took your eyes off him. He was one mean buck. One day I looked out the bay window and there was Randy staring down the buck and holding a branch against his nose and staring him down eye to eye.I hurried out and together we escaped the wrath of the buck sheep. The buck caught me off gaurd once or twice in the corral and dealt me a couple of blows that I did not soon forget.
During the summer in l965 and a few years thereafter we pulled 29' Terry camper from California to Minneasota , then up to Canada, across Canada to British Columbia, then down the coast to Riverside
, Califonia.. He enjoyed traveling then and is probably the most traveled family member. As of March of 2005 ,he has logged over 500,000 air miles for business and pleasure.
On one of the trips to Minnesota as we were pulling out of Hills I spottedd a 3l Model A Ford five window coupe with a rumble seat at Orv's station.I paid $250 for it and stored it Grandma Rye's garage. In 1970 we towed it to Loveland, Colorado. Randy and I took a mechanics course at the community college where He and his car were the center of attention. We bought a reconditioned running gear at the Antique Auto House and Randy transferred the car piece by piece to the new running gear.He has renewed the car twice all on his own accord. He will never be as great as my nephew,Art Ehde's father, but he does us all rght proud. He still has the 31 Ford Model A.It is a symbol of his patience and skill.

To be continues...

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

"And a woman, who held a babe against her
bosom said, Speak to us of Children.
And he said:
Your children ar not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's
longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong
not to you.
You may give them your love but not your
thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house they bodies but not their
souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your
dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not
to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with
yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of
the infinite, and He bends you with His might.
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for
gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so
He loves also the bow that is stable."

Most Richly blessed:part five

Benjamin Cooper Rye(the son of Greg and Lisa Towne Rye) entered into this world on September 26th ,2004 and lives with his parents in Loveland, Colorado. It has been my priviledge to see him four times so far and I am looking forward to seeing him at Cassia's graduation on May 22nd, 2005. Each time I see him I witnesses a joyous, smiling, happy life in progress. And is it any wonder for he is surrounded by an exciting and happy brother,Samuel,Adevoted, loving, caring Mother,Liza, and a devoted, loving, caring Father,Greg.

I am,among all men, most richly blessed.

We will see more of him and his family on this site as soon as I develop the necessary skills.

Most richly blessed: part three:

The 2nd of March is the birthday of Dr.Suess. It is also the birthday of my Grandson,Samuel Nelson Rye. His
great grandfather's name was Gullick Nelson Rye. When he came to America at the age of sixteen, his name was
Gullick Rye. Friends and relatives urged him to Americanize his name so he became Gullick Nelson,i.e.,son of Nels. My Father was a farmer and when he sold a load of hogs the check was mailed to another Nelson. My Mother paid off a loan at the bank and it was credited to another Nelson. It seemed at that period in time in Minnesota, everyone was a Nelson,a Thompson(my Mother's maiden name), a Nerison or a Johnson. My Father went to court and changed his name back to Gullick Nelson Rye and theerby hangs a tale. My oldest sister,Opal, was born a Nelson and then by court action became a Rye. When she was united in the holy bands of matrimony, she became Mrs.Elmer Nelson.
Donna and I choose Nelson as the middle name of our Son,Gregory, who is Samuel's Father.
Greg and Liza choose Nelson as the middle name of Samuel, our Grandson.
Samuel was six years old on his last birthday, March 2nd. and he is a joy to behold. I try to get to Colorado as often as possible for to be in his prescense is excitement, excitement excitement.
When I obtain the skills to scan pictures and include them in this account you will share in my joy!!

Most richly Blessed-part three

On June 5th, Summer Elizabeth Rye will celebrate her eighth birthday. She is often referred to as "Summer"
I was living in Winslow, Arizona, mid-way between Dan and Brigid in Phoenix and Dr. Gregg Rye in Albuqurquere, New Mexico and it seemed to me to be special to be near at the birth of a new life. So, on the day of Summer's birth I moved to Phoenix. And

I am, among all men, most richly blessed..

When I come more adept(with guidance from Court) I hope to scan and put pictures of "Sunshine" on my site.

Las Saturday I was privileged to be her babysiter and after an hour or two with her and her vivid imagination I
usually end up on cloud nine and it takes an hour or two to get me off that high.

Brigid, her Mother, helps out at her school during the week and on Thursdays, her Father,Dan, reads to the
students.
It is a joy to be close to their family.

Most richly blessed: Paaart three

You have probably already suspected that I am indeed a novice. Yesterday, I posted the same blog twice. I will have to wait for Court to erase one of the entries.I do know how to scan pictures so this entry will be updated if and when I become more adept at this sort of thing.

My Granddaughter, Summer Rye, is also the apple of my eye. On the 8th of June she will be eight years old. Summer and her parents,Brigid and Dan Rye, live in Phoenix and I am fortunte to be in their company quite often. In fact, tomorrow afternoon I am priviledged to be with her while her parents attend a funeral. She has such a great imagination and our journey into fantasy and make believe leaves this Papa really high.

I can't wait till I master the scanner so I can share pictures of her with you!!

I am,among all men, most richly blessed.

Most richly blessed; part two

I was at the edge of a dark abyss- I had isolated myself from my family. Then out of the mouth of babes came strength. My Granddaughter, wrote me this letter, excerpts of which I will share at this
"Dear Papa, I miss you so very much....We have to visit more before life passes us by. I miss you so much I could go on for days........ I'm glad that you will be at Mona's wedding so I can see you. Your Granddaugther"
Later, her teacher told her Father, Randy, that he might want to share with me a poem that she has turned in:

Though I don't see you very much
the memories you give me are such

That I keep you in my heart,
You've helped me from the start,

Your so brave,strong, and bold,
Your more precious to me then gold,

And in my soul you left a mold,
That can never be retold,

And I Hope someday I'm just like you
So I can maybe help them too.

Dedicated to Papa

I am, among all men, most richly blessed

On May 22nd, her graduates from high school with high honors.
Their motto certainly holds true for her.

"Oh, the places you'll go!
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose."

Most richly blessed

These are the words that were found on a piece of paper in the pocket of a Confederate soldier over a hundred years ago...

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve,
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health, that I might do greater things,
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.
I asked for riches, that I might be happy,
I was given poverty , that I might be wise.
Iasked for power, that I might have the praise of men,
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life,
I was given life that I could enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I asked for--but everything I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am, among all men, most richly blessed.

Because of Court,

I am, among all men, most richly blessed.

Blessed with a loving, creative and patient Grandson(http://courtrye.com/) who has created this blog for me.
Throughout his life he has brought joy, excitement and a zeal for life to all who have been fortunate enough to be in his circle of relatives and friends.

For our Court, a Hip,Hip, Horaay

Through the generosity of Summer, Brigid and Dan, I was able to attend the season's opening game yesterday at
Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix.. Needless to say, the D-Backs didn't prevail over the Cubs but there are still 151 games left to play!
