I,AM,AMONG ALL MEN, MOST RICHLY BLESSED

How do I love thee? let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For ends of Being and ideal Grace.-E.Browning

I love thy dearly as this beautiful infant
snuggled safely in my arms.

I love the as our first grandchild, heralded in pride
as you bring joy to everyone in your sphere of influence.

Drop a stone into the water-
in a moment it is gone,
Buth there are a hundred ripples
circling on and on and on,

Say an unkind word this moment-
in a moment it is gone
But there are a hundred ripples
Circling on and on and on,

Say a word of cheer and splendor-
in a moment it is gone
But there are a hundred ripples
Circling on and on and on.
-Author unknown

COURT, an array of hope and splendor
in a momemt it is gone
But there are a hundred ripples
Circling on and on and on.

Because of Court, I am among all men, most richly blessed.

Adding Photos to Glenndeavour

Hello Papa!

In order to help you with adding photos in your blog posts I have decided to post this short tutorial. In the following sections you will find the steps and links necessary to help you locate family photos, insert them into the blog and finally publish your post.

  • When adding a photo to a blog it is easiest to have two internet windows open, this way you can have your post editor open and insert the picture from the online family album in one simple step!
  • First go to http://blogger.com/ and sign in, once you are at the dashboard click the green "add post" button, or click the name of your blog and under the "posting" tab click "Create"
  • It is easiest to add the picture before beginning the post, so now that you have logged into blogger in one window, switch to the other window so we can navigate to the Rye Family Photo Album. The picture below shows how to switch between internet explorer windows.
  • In the new window (the one that does not have blogger open) go to the Rye Family Photo Album which can be found directly at http://ryefamily.net/memory-lane/ or by going to your blog at http://glenn.ryefamily.net/ and then clicking the "Rye Memory Lane" link under "other links"
  • Once you are at the photo album page, miniature photos will begin to load slowly down the page. If you are looking for a specific photo the fastest way to locate it is usually to scroll down the thumbnails page, if however you are simply browsing for fun I suggest clicking on a photo and using the built in navigation to go from one picture to the next.
  • When you find a photo that you want to add to your blog, click on it twice. Make sure that the page you end up on only shows the photo and does not show the navigation at the top. You can double check this by reading the address of the picture and making sure it ends in .jpg
  • Now that you have navigated to the actual URL of the photograph, hilight it by holding the left click on the mouse and dragging until the entire link has been selected. Usually something turns blue when it is selected, so in this case you want the entire address to have blue around it. There are other ways to hilight things, sometimes a single click or two slow clicks will do it. Experiment until the entire URL is selected. An example of a full URL from Rye Family Photo Album would look like this: http://ryefamily.net/memory-lane/images/107_jpg.jpg only the blue would be all around the link instead of on it.
  • Once the URL is hilighted, let go of the left mouse button and click the right button on the URL once, a tiny menu will appear and there will be a few options. Choose the option to "Copy" the URL, this will temporarily store the URL that you just hilighted in the computers memory.
  • Now that you have stored the URL in the computers temporary memory, navigate back to blogger by clicking its tab along the Start bar at the bottom. This will bring you back to the Posting - Create page that you got to earlier.
  • From the list of options at the top of the Compose box there is a tiny button that looks like a picture, when you hover your mouse button over the button it says "add image," click this once. When you click this button a new window will appear (and it may not be in the center of the screen) if you cannot see the entire window simply left click and hold the top bar of the window while dragging and position the window where you can see all of its contents.
  • This window has three steps, 1. locate the file of the image (which we have stored from when we right clicked and copied it) 2. choose the orientation (you said that left alignment worked best for you) and 3. choose the size (I recommend medium).
  • First, right click in the empty field in the upper right hand corner and select "Paste" from the tiny drop down that appears. Make sure you paste the URL into the right field, you want the one that says "Or add and image from the web" above it and has the letters "URL" just to the left of it. Once again, this is the field that is in the top right hand corner.
  • Now that the URL has been pasted, simply choose the circular button for the left aligned image and also check the circle for "medium" sized image and then click "Upload Image."
  • Once the image is uploaded a new screen appears which has a "Done" button on it, click "Done" and the window will close.
  • You should now see the empty blog entry screen with your picture successfully pasted on the left hand side! You can begin typing by clicking your cursor anywhere in the white space just to the right of the image. Publish the post when you have finished typing (and my advice would be to "Save as Draft" if you are typing a long post and are worried about possibly deleting the image on accident or having a computer problem).
  • Essentially the steps would be to open blogger and the photo album, choose a picture and copy the link, paste the link and upload the image, save as draft so you don't lose your material and then type the post and publish when it is done!

Good luck! Call me if you need help, this tutorial took forever and I know you may still have questions. I hope this makes it easier for you to post, and hopefully you won't post a million enpty entries on accident anymore... If you publish a post and the internet seems to stall, only click Publish Post once because multiple clicks may be causing multiple entries.

Love ya,

Court

"you......the bows....your children as living arrows are sent"

It was a magnicent dinner and birthday party hosted by Bridgid And Summer in honor of Daniel Gene Rye.Summer made the corn bread and the birhday cake and a good time was had by all.
A friend of my Mother, Caroline Leland accompanied us to California from Minnesota. She was to care for Angela and Randy before and after the birth of Daniel. I believe it was about 2:30 in the afternoon on the 12th of July that I arrived at Riverside Community Hospital just in time for Dan's birth. The next day as I was working at my summer job as a laborer constructing a golf course I enjured my back as I and a big fellow were moving a tree. He stepped into a hole and the entire weight shifted to me. So on the second day of Dan's life both of his parents were in the same hospital. Somehow or other my Mother in Minnesota got in touch with her brother in Califorina who informed my Mother that he also lived in Riverside. So the first visitors that Donna and I had in the hospital was lost long Uncle Tommy and his California wife, Lilillian..
When we were released from the hospital we returned to our 2 bedroon rental a stones throw away from the railroad tracks. That made Donna and I and our three children, plus Caroline. Then our teacher friend and his family, the Ottesons, who had taught with us in Worthington and ended up in the same school in Riverside asked if they could stay with us until thier home becamae available. That added two adults and five children to our humble abode. Our landlady, a little tiny retired piano teacher rented to us one Sunday after church. She approved of Anglea in her Sunday best but maybe some doubts entered her mind when she saw Randy playing in the water that was running in the curb. But Randy smiled and she approved the deal. Needless to say, when she came by one day to collect the rent we had to hustle a half dozen or so bodies into the back yard.
I could get blue cross insurance without a physical if I showed up the first day of school. I could barely walk and I stood up against the wall every time class passed so I wouldn't get bumped and yes I made the muster the first day.I don't know if the proxiimity to the railroad affected Dan or not but he became a great lover of trains and as we traveled around the country in the early days he became real animated when a train appeared. While we're speaking of trains several years later the children had the opportunity courltesy of Harris Dept Store to ride the railroad up to Lake Arrowhead and Santa's village. The store provided chaperones and the parents were able to spend four hours shopping at the store. Who would let the children do that to-day? Well, when they returned we were waiting by the train as a long, long line of children embarked. I guess Dan thought the line was moving to slowly and he thought his brother Randy was in front of him and he gave him a good hefty shove.Unfortunately for Dan it was not his brother and the kid took a swing at Dan. He missed. By this point in time we had a movie camera and we caught it live, Won't we ever let him forget it?
We attended a local Lutheran church and the Sunday School nursery teacher made the kid's sing hymns all hour long. It was long before Dan ended up joing us in sitting through the church service.
We were paying $85 a month for rent and in California if you were a Vet you could by a home for $100 down.
At one tract the broker said that he would give me a job I we bought a home. We did. We moved into a 3 b.r. home with 1and 3/4's bath and our payment was $87 a month. We put in a dichondra lawn the the kids help plant flats of angleworns in the decomposed granite soil and a woven wire fence was put up in the back yard and the kids could run free in the sprinklers all year round. This was 1957 and not many of our relatives back home had indoor plumbing yet so we didn't dare to mention the bathrooms.. God willing , the Danny boy saga will contiue.

"You are the bows from which the arrows fly" part 3, Daniel

Donna Lee Entenman and Glenn E. Rye were married in the Congregational Church in Sioux Falls, S.D. on August 19, l955.
Angela Ann Rye was born on November 14,1956 in Hills, Minnesota
Randy Lee Rye was born on July 17, 1956 in Wor;thington Mn.
. The first year that we were married I taught at Roskrudge Junior high school in Tucson, Az.
Donns was the head cashier at a Safeway store. We moved to Hills because Donna's father, John was suffering from cancer. We then moved to Worthington to teach. During the Easther break in l958 I traveled to California to seek a teaching position. California was the only state at point in time that had junior colleges and we wanted access to these schools for our children.
Donna was 8 months pregnant with a child and Donna's Dr. told us to ger rid of the pickup triuck and get a big sized sedan so we became the owners of a 1954 Chrysler New Yorker, blue in color. We picked up a used two wheel covered trailer to put our books and personal belongings in for transport to the Golden state.
Going through Utah we noticed a wheel going by us. It was one of the wheels off the trailer. Our jack couldn't raise the trailer so we unloaded it, put on the wheel and went on our merry way.I did not have a job so the was the first task in hand as we lived in a motel in Cucamonga. I was then hired at Sierra Junior High School in Riverside ,California, the same school as our friends from Worthington, the Ottesons had found employment.
The doctors in Worthington had told Donna to beware of osteopaths that practice in California. Our neighbor lady in our duplex recommended her doctor. Naturally, it was an osteopath. We then decided we would go to the county hospital that was across Magnolia Avenue from our duplex. Someone escaped from the 8th floor mental ward and terorized the hospital so that option was out. Donna was quite perplexed so I went to the Lutheran Church and asked the pastor to send out some pregnant ladies.
One of these ladies was Betty Craig who was to become along with her family, our lifelong friends. She introduced Donna to her doctor. and everything seemed to fall into place. The church also sent out furniture as they dicovered that we were sitting on boxes. The excess furniture we gave to our firends, the Ottesons.
I got a job throwing hay bales but they were not regular bales but like everything else in California, supersized.
I lasted one day and didn,t go back to pick up a check because I didn't want to admit that I cxcouldn't take it.
I then got a job as a laborer on a crew that was building a golf course in Sunnymead
We then awaited the blessed event but that story will have to wait until tommorrw.

Done roaming, for now

After traveling through the mountains of Colorado I returned to Sun City at 6.00 Thursday evening.Counnting up the 1000 miles I covered with Todd in Minnesota I ended up with about 3000 miles under my belt.I had lulnch with Randy, Greg, Sam and Ben before I left Loveland. Dr. Greg had given me a a chiropratic and acupunture treatment before I left so I'm almost as good as new. Dan, Brigid and Summer are in Deer Valley, Utah, so I won't touch base with Dan until Tuesday.
Monday is our country's birrthday and we can all say with no restraints, IS THIS A GREAT COUNTRY, OR WHAT?
