hope springs eterenal

Early Morning Open
Sat, May 31, 2008 at 3:28:55 am PST
Hope is the thing with feathersThat perches in the soul,And sings the tune without the words,And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard; And sore must be the stormThat could abash the little birdThat kept so many warm.
I’ve heard it in the chilliest landAnd on the strangest sea;Yet, never, in extremity,It asked a crumb of me.
— Emily Dickinson

Sea Fever

Sea-Fever
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a gray dawn breaking.
I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tideIs a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied; And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's likea whetted knife; And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.
John Masefield

The good ship, SUNSHINE

When Dan was in elementary school some forty years ago in Riverside, California, he commondered the garage and with the plans from a Popular Mechanics magazine built a boat. It never saw water.
In high school he applied as a crew member on a boat but was not successful.
On Lake Pleasant near Phoenix he sailed a small sail boat.
He is now the Captain of the Sunshine which by the way recieved its name from Brigid and Dan's favorite name for their lovely daughter, Summer, who is indeed the sunshine of their lives.

sea flight to Lopez Island

Greg, Lisa, Sam and Ben will arrive at Lopez Island at 10.00 A.M. aboard Kenmore flight 120.
It will be in a plane similar to the ones above.
In the top picture from an earlier trip from left to right are Greg,Glenn, Dan and Randy. The flights in those small planes are a thrill ,indeed. We all thank Brigid, Dan and Summer for their generosity.

Friday Harbor, San Juan Islands

Yes, on this Friday afternoon, the good ship,Sunshine will anchor in Friday Harbor with Dan, Brigid and Summer being joined by Greg, Lisa, Sam and Ben.
With a population of just above 2,000, the village of Friday Harbor is a far cry from being a big city, but as the economic, transportation and government center of San Juan County, it is the laragest in the San Juan Islands

Remember the Suns?

The
Golden Grannies from Sun City and other points performed for 60 seconds during a Suns timeout. My friend, Ethel, was part of that group and now the joy of this week was the fact that the Spurs were eliminated but by the Lakers that I do not especially cherish. What's a person to do?

These are some of the friends with whom I have enjoyed the games. The top picture is of Bernie Greene. When her husband and I went to the game we took no pictures.

More D-Backs

My dance partner, Ethel, and I at a D-Back's game

Go Diamondbacks

My son, Dan, has season tickets right by first base and it has been my privilege to attend three games with him this season.
Dan is also very generous with his tickets and I have shared them with many dear friends-hint- of mine. I guess that it is the least a father can do for his son is to see that no ticket goes unused
..

Love the view

I like is so much that I pictured it again. No, actually I not to swift in transferring pictures from the disc.

View from the 17th hole

Sun City is wonderful. I live on the g0lf course but am now or never have been a chipper. I walked up and down enough corn rows and soybean rows in Minnesota hoeing cockleburs and chopping out volunteer plants to last a lifetime.
And I never sang "Coming Through The Rye" while in the fields but I did hum a little.

Summers moving up

Summer, the student second from right, in one of the performances at the Desert View Learning center on the occassion of Summers move from 4th grade to her new middle school.

Late Mother's day tribute

Mother o' Mine
by Rudyard Kipling(1865-1936)
If I were hanged on the highest hill, Mother o' mine, O mother o' mine! I know whose love would follow me still, Mother o' mine, O mother o' mine! If I were drowned in the deepest sea, Mother o' mine, O mother o' mine! I know whose tears would come down to me, Mother o' mine, O mother o' mine! If I were damned of body and soul, I know whose prayers would make me whole, Mother o' mine, O mother o' mine!

Songs of Innocence
by William Blake
INTRODUCTION Piping down the valleys wild, Piping songs of pleasant glee, On a cloud I saw a child, And he laughing said to me: 'Pipe a song about a Lamb!' So I piped with merry cheer. 'Piper, pipe that song again.' So I piped: he wept to hear. 'Drop thy pipe, thy happy pipe; Sing thy songs of happy cheer!' So I sung the same again, While he wept with joy to hear. 'Piper, sit thee down and write In a book, that all may read.' So he vanished from my sight; And I plucked a hollow reed, And I made a rural pen, And I stained the water clear, And I wrote my happy songs Every child may joy to hear.
