The Anderson's in all their glory

As promised here are the Andersons.
The extra pictures of the canoe people are are result of my clumbsy hands.

And now for the rest of the story

On the May 31 entry at 8:ll everything went awry. My clumbsy hands touched a key that made everything disappear. After fooling around a while I discovered the text and picture but I was unable to complete the story. So we now have Keith and Lois sitting on the bunk bed and Randy is conducting a church service and Dan enters to offer the guests communion.
Keith and Lois decide that maybe it is safe to bring children into the world and they have three beautiful, loving and caring children, namely,Keith, Kristi and Beth.
Kristi and Mike live in Phoenix where he is and f-16 pilot in the reserves and a South West Airline pilot. I believe that Dan and Greg attended thier wedding at the air force accademy and they andd brigid, Dan and Summer are close friends and when Kristi's parents, Lois and Keith come over from California I am blessed to see them.
I will now attempt to put an old picture on the blog so you can see the Andersons in all their glory.

I must g o down to the sea again

Dan, my sister, Opal, (Deceased),and Randy on Lake Loveland in the 70's. Yesterday, Brigid, Summer and Dan went through the locks in Seattle and today they will be joined by Krisi, Mike and Jacalyn Wang(age 1) for a few days at sea. Kristi's great grandmother, Mary Thompson Anderson was my Mother's sister. Mary and Elof Anderson had three boys. Keith died at age l8 while having his tonsils out at Sioux Valley hospital in Sioux Falls. Loften died at age 26. Merrit, the father of Keith, died at the age of 46. Keith is Krisi's father, about my 2nd cousin.

Keith was about five when his father died and I remember his Mother, Elsie, with three small children, Keith, Kent and Anita, at Merrit's funeral at the Swedish Lutheran Church outrside of Valley Springs, South Dakota. My contact with Keith was limited until when he was fifteen he was working for Spencer Nelson and I came to do custom baling and there was Keith ready to throw bales on the flatbed.

Keith then got his degree in pharmacy from South Dakota State and worked at a pharmacy on east 1oth street in Sioux Falls. I would stop and see him when I came to town from Hills,Mn.

We moved from Worthington, Mn.,where I taught speech and debate to Riverside, Ca. By 1962, I was in real estate and working at our subdivision in San Bernardino when in walked Keith and his new bride, Lois. They had moved to Whittier, California.

Now here was the finest, most gentle, most idealistic, most devote couple one could hope to find on God's green earth. They were concerned about bringing children into a world that seemed so exposed to the forces of evil. Remember, we were in California after all!

Well, Donna invited them to dinner and they motored to Riverside that Sunday afternoon. Our children loved to put on plays and Keith and Lois were chosen to be the audience on this particular day. I believe that Angela was five, Randy four, and Dan three at that time.Angela lead them into the bedroom and seated them on the bottom bunk bed and Randy and Angela then conducted a church service and a

"the greatest land on God"s green earth."

Joyce Kilmer was a British soldier and poet who died in the trenches in WWl. But not before he wrote this poem. I quote from memory so please excuse any gaps.

"In Flander's Field the poppies grow,
Beneath the crosse row on row
That mark our places-
And in the sky, the larks still bravely singing fly.

we are the dead-short days ago
We lived saw sunset's glow
But now we lie in Flander's Field.

To you from failing hands we throw
the torch, be yours to hold it high
If you break faith we us who die,
We shall not rest, though poppies grow
In Flander's Field.

In the small town of Hills, Minnesota where I live, My Mother, Emma, and other legion auxillary members sold poppies on this holiday. No one was around that did'nt sport a poppy.
I was thinking about that last night an longed for days go by, but then this morning I went to Frys market and there was a little old lady selling poppies. I will wear it proudly all weekend and on Monday will attend a memorial serive at the cemetary. There, three years ago, I was priviledged to hear Joe Foss speak. A world war two ace, he had bagged 27 Japanese zeros by mid l943. We got out of high school to see a parade in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Joe's hometown. His family farm was just across the state line from our Minnesota farm home.

We honor all who have served and all who have stolen quietlty away.
Omar kyyamm said it best in his 12th century writtings:

"And those we loved, the loveiest and best
who through the vintage, rolling time has pressed.
Have drunk their cup, a time or two before.
And one by one stole siliently off to rest."

My Granddaughter latest motto

"Dance as if no one were watching Sing as if no one were listening and live each day as if it were your last."

Summer's school end program

I was priviledged to join Brigid and Dan at summer's school for the end of the school year performance.
Each grade present a story that included choreography, dance, singing and enthusiam that makes many of us to harken back to the days our own childhood.
The dedicated staff bring out the best in each of their students. It was a joyous and happy event.

Dan's Diamond Back access

Dan shown here with Owen Craig, Jr., (deceased) fishing on a boat in the Bahamas on a joint trip we took with their family in the 70's.
We had left Minnesota in 1958 traveling to Riverside, California whileDonna was carrying Dan.
We had difficulty in finding a Dr. that Donna was confortable with so I went to the local Lutheran church and asked the Pastor to send out several pregant ladies. Little Owen's Mother, Betty, arrived on the scene and the families became life long friends.
Betty had been exposed to German measels and little Owen was born with a heart condition. He underwent numerous heart operations and managed to live a productive and loving life.
When Owen was 5 or 6 we joined the Craig family at an IBM shared retreat on Lake Tahoe.
Owen got on a go cart and took off and as we feared for his safety he sped around the track paying no heed to our attempts to stop him. All ended well!
Unknown to us, on this trip to the Bahamas the boys rented motor bikes and toured areas of the island that the parents would have felt umcomfortable with. Don't end a sentence with a preposition.
Anyhow, my dance partner, Ethel, and I used Brigid and Dan's tickets last night to see the DBacks defeated 2 to 0 by the Colorado Rockies.
Next week, Brigid, Summer and Dan will go to Seattle where their boat is housed and spend some time on the inland passage.
This evening the students at Summer's school will present an end of the year program which I will attend .. The programs are great and it is joy to my heart to see youngsters who are so creative and an inspiration to those of us who remember with fondness the days of our youth.

Diamondback Dan & Me

Dan has season tickets to the DBacks games and Monday night it was my pleasure to attend the game with him. Foartunately we defeated the Colorado Rockies. I had lunch with Dan on Tuesday at our favorite Greek place It has been to have lunch with Dan most every Saturday during the past year. It is a day I look forward with anticipation.
This Saturday will be the last one for a few weeks as Dan,Brigid and Summer will head to Seattle to spend time on their power boat. Brigid and Dan have generously lined up family and friends to spend time with them on the "sunshine" during the summer months.

When Dan was seven he got a hold of a Popular Mechanics magazine and found plans for a boat which he then used to build a boat in the garage of our Riverside, California home. The boat never saw the water but now Brigid and Dan are seasoned pilots navigating the inland passage out of Seattle.

Splash up AstronautsNasa intern, My Granddaughter

My Granddaughter who celebated her birthday, went to work as a NASA intern on Friday morning and the director and others wished her happy birthday and informed her that she would have to greet the astronauts as they emerged from a 2 week stint in thei undewater capsule of the Florida keys.
When the astronauts return from space they call it a SPLASH DOWN. When the return from the ocean floor the call it a SPLASH UP.
I'm sure My Granddaughter had a greeting for them , but before she could deliver it the astronauts in unison wished My Granddaughter a happy birthday. Is this a great country or what!!!
Go to My Granddaughter website noted on a previous posting and click on aquarius experience and it recounts her experience in the underwater chamber two years ago

Skate away, Summer

Summer hosted a pre-birthday roller skating party at a local church on Saturday.

Brigid, her Mother, was busy helping new skaters, tieing their laces and aiding them as a glided across the floor. Both Summer and Brigid are excellent skaters and all of her school friends enjoyed the party. Dan brought a salad and goodies for a luncheon treat.
Summer will be 10 on June 5th, but they will be up on their boat in Canada at that time.

Sport's week

My son. Dan, took me to the Diamond Backs game on Monday and the Dbacks defeated the Philllies by a score of 4 to 3. He also gave me ticket for the Wednesday afternoon game with the Phillies which we lost 9 to 4. My friend,Ethlel, accompanied me.Ethel has cable and on Tuesday night we watched the Phoenix Suns defeat the spurs 102 to 81. The Suns play again on Saturday night.
The highlight of the week was when I got to speak to my Grandson, Court Rye, who created this blog for me. I had a question and left a message and then was fortunate enough to be home when he returned the call. Only one year of of CU he has had three challenging jobs with three top companies and has moved on on his own volition to his present position of project manager. If you have any doubts about the high quality of young people today go to his blog,
www.courtrye.com and touch base on many of his icons and you will be truly amazed at his creativitiy and writting skills . What has God wrought!!!!

His sister, My Granddaughter just finished another year at CU and then left for Florida to work for NASA on the Aquarious program where she works in a caspsule under the ocean where the astronauts train. Her exciting adventures were cataloged earlier somewhere on this blog.
Court and My Granddaughter are the children of our son, Randy!

Court also walked me through the process of e-mail and sent my first e mail.
My address is glenn.rye@gmail.com. Will wonders never cease?

Raymond Lee Rye- RIP

My younger brother,Raymond Lee Rye, passed away shortly after midnight on April 21, 2007, in Eau Claire,Wisconsin where he lived with his devoted wife, Sandy, his children and grandchildren. Ray turned 75 on March 21st.
Ray was not a stranger to hardship and suffering. He had many brushes with sickness and death during his lifetime. On September 22, 2006, the doctors were ready to stop his defibrilator which was keeping him alive, but lo and behold he started eating and forcing himself to walk a few more steps each time. At this time he was in a HOSPICE facility but by his faith in the power of the prayers that were being offered up on his behalf and the loving support of Sandy and his beautiful family he was able to recovery enough to enjoy thanksgiving dinner at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
I have written about Ray and his miraculous and valiant fight several times on this blog. When Sandy forwards an obituary to me I will share it with you.
I flew to Omaha, rented a car and drove to Luverne, Mn. where I stayed with my gracious neice,Carol Nelson Ehde and Art.I drove through a rain storm from Sioux City to Sioux Falls which is a nice experienc for one from Arizona.
I was bowled over at the door by Carol And Art's grandson, Carson, who is the best hugger of all. Carson's father, Scott, had injured his hand and was there also.
I traveled to Eau Claire with Carol and Art in their 2003 Chevy 3/4 ton crew cab which is roomier that a car and a very comfortable ride.
I flew over on Sunday, we traveled to Eau Claire on Monday and arrived about 6 o'clock in the evening. As Ray would have wanted , we joined in at his son's Stephen's home to celebrate his wife's 40th birthday. Ray and Sandy's four children, Rayond Jr,Barbara, Stephen and Jeffery were present as well as many grandchidren who I can not enunerate.
From Renner came, Helen, Diane and Lorraine. From Gillette, Whyoming came Gary who played taps at the graveside service on the trumphet that once belonged to my Uncle,Tommy Thompson. Helen picked up Laurie and Dan and Jewell Rockensock drove Viv and Don down from Bermidji . Barabra and her son Todd drove from Mankato and Todd has the coolest beard that I've seen in ages.
The Chapel was filled with the many friends and loved ones.
I am sure that the MASTER said,"well done thou good and faithful sevant,Ray, thou has been faitfull in a few things and I will make you master of many."

Now let us praise famous men, Raymond Lee Rye, REST IN PEACE
